BLOG DE HASIBUL ISLAM – Think Broad…

A little sincerity can make a big defference

26.04.2009 (1:06 am) – Filed under: Articles, Bangladesh, Uncategorized ::

There is no doubt that- our nation is progressing. Our GDP is going up, our Average income is going up, our economy is growing and our live style is improving. Our improved lifestyle is creating even more demand on our resources. We are using them more rapidly then ever before. As a result we are running out of these resources even more rapidly. Are we aware of this?

I remember, there was no scarcity of water in our area even 3/4 years back. Now, I am getting used to No-Water condition as literally the water supply has gone dramatically down. There are two main reasons for this. Number 1 is the Water Layer - which has gone so down that the water pumps can hardly pull out water from the deep. The second reason is the Electricity problem - which it self is a problem and will be discussed in the later part of this article. Again we are responsible for both the reasons. Our ever growing demand is forcing the water authority to pump even more water, on the other hand we are reducing the natural water basin which lets the water from the surface to go down to fill up the water that we are consuming by pumping up. The city is getting covered by the bitumen surfaces and concrete layers.

Discussing the 2nd reason of water crisis will bring up even another more important problem that are facing - yes I meant “Electricity Problem”. In last few years a big number of new electricity users were introduced whereas the total production of electricity has gone down. I think there are two major reasons for Electricity problem. The first one was the lack of future vision and no-maintenance, because of which no new electricity generation was added, moreover it has gone down due to power stations going down due to lack of overhauling services. The second reason is that the resources upon which Electricity production depends, are in scarce situation itself. Examples are - Water level drop in Kaptai lake which is the largest hydroelectric power plant in Bangladesh, the supply shortages of Natural gas - using which many of the power station run. The water level drop can be identified as natural disaster, but the gas problem is again ignited by the misuse of it by us. We burn more than 10 cubic meter gas for our car at a cost of only 160-170 taka every day- which is enough for cooking burner to run for more than a month. Just imagine how quickly we are burning our resources. The rate at which we are burning our natural gas will cause running out of it within less than a decade. What are we going to do then? No Gas means, no fertilizer - no Electricity. We can understand what no fertilizer means, but what about no electricity? No electricity means, no irrigation- no water - no industrialization - no development. Are we really aware of the future we are heading?
We can’t change our fate overnight but we can try atleast. We have to be very careful about using our resources and should try all possible ways to save as much as we can. If we are not awakened soon, this dreadful situation will welcome the ultimate nightmare for us.

Speedup Firefox

24.03.2009 (5:13 pm) – Filed under: Collected, Did you know?, Technology, Tips & Tricks, Uncategorized ::

1.Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
and browser.turbo.enabled

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once. (Max can only be 8, but people report 30. The 30 open connections is incorrect)

Set “browser.turbo.enabled” to “true”

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0″. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

4. FOR XP USERS SEEKING FASTER FIREFOX LOADTIMES: Within the Firefox “shortcut” icon properties add /Prefetch:1 (outside the quotation marks) of the ‘target. For example: my target is “D:Program FilesMozilla Firefoxfirefox.exe” /Prefetch:1

Chk dis out it really works

Bangladesh government has lifted youtube ban !! - Youtube is now unbanned in Bangladesh

11.03.2009 (2:32 pm) – Filed under: Bangladesh, Daily Life, Did you know?, Streaming Videos, Technology, Uncategorized ::

Bangladesh govt has finally lifted up the ban that was imposed on accessing youtube. I am really confused whether the ban has served the purpose it was imposed for. Rather, it grew curiosity among the people on what really caused the government to do so. Therefore I believe the output was infact negative, and the govt could sense so. But the damage has been done in the meantime. People of a democratic country thus couldn’t tolerate it.

People never like any restriction, specially it was a heavy shock to the newer generation. People now a days are dependent on youtube in many ways. It is not that they watch music videos, drama or use it for entertainment purposes only. Many tech savvy people depend on youtube for various video tutorials or other informative videos.

Youtube inaccessible (Blocked) in Bangladesh !!

08.03.2009 (1:00 am) – Filed under: Bangladesh, Daily Life, Did you know?, Streaming Videos, Technology, Uncategorized ::

6th March 2007, 6 or 7 pm (not sure):

I found and error message when i tried to browse youtube.com . I tried to ping the site, the sites IP was resolved but it couldn’t ping. Then I tried the traceroute in command prompt ( tracert youtube.com). Again the IP was resolved but coudn’t trace a single node. I though it was a problem or a blockage at my ISP’s (xpressbd.net) side. I mailed them and in their reply they told me to check a few steps. I knew there wasn’t anything wrong at my side and mailed again. They again replied with the ping and traceroute result and concluding that it was a sort of blockage at BTCL end. However I called a few friends of mine some could access the site, and they were GP edge users. But others with different ISPs couldn’t.

There are more than 1 International Internet Gateway (IIG) in Bangladesh now a days (eg BTCL, Mango Telecom). I was unable to browse youtube.com from around 6/7 pm on 6th March. I asked a friend of mine who uses GP edge, and he said that He could browse youtube.com during 6/7 pm on 6th March. As far as I know GP uses bandwidth from both BTCL and Mango telecom and probably through V-SAT also. It could happen that the site was blocked/restricted from BTCL bandwidth first and then gradually Mango also followed. That’s because when I asked the same friend today (GP user) he said that he can’t browse today. It is possible to put restriction at every gateway. These are widely practised in China, Myanmar and many other countries where govt control the use of Internet. It is still possible someone can browse the site if they are using bandwidth directly from own V-SAT where it will take time for any authority to impose any kind of restriction.

Therefore I believe it can be some kind of restriction imposed on Bangladeshi Internet users, but I hope that it shouldn’t be a permanant one. It can be because of the current situation caused by the BDR mutiny incident. Youtube hosts numbers of videos/interviews of the BDR mutiny incident.

Random writings from the trash can …

02.03.2009 (1:33 am) – Filed under: Articles, Daily Life, Uncategorized ::

In many movies or TV shows I saw many a writers (famous) trying to write something but wasting their papers with garbage writings and dumping those. Finally they write something wonderful. Well, that’s why they are good writers. That’s when I started to give a go. Who knows, dumping papers in the trash can in numbers may help me write something kewl (!).

Sky is the limit …

We often use the words “sky is the limit” or “sky high”. Can anyone say- what possibly is the height of the sky? Could anyone found the boundary where the sky ends? May be someone knows the answers of these question, but I don’t know honestly. May be human ambition is also something like that. We can’t really put a boundary for it. We live between the reality and ambition like the way we do live between the earth and the Sky. Here the earth is the reality and Sky is the ambition. Whatever our ambition might be we are always closer to the reality exactly the way we are always closer to the earth rather than flying towards the sky. But we always try to jump off the earth and grab the stars, reality pulls us to the earth. Not everyone cherish to grab the star, not everyone who desire to reach the stars reaches it. We can never stop our mind to limit our ambition.

Who Am I?

Sometimes I go through some strange feelings. I look at my hands, I see it can move. But how am I moving it? I look myself in the mirror and try to figure out who the person in the mirror is. Imagine if there were no mirrors, no photography, no sketch in the world, not even anything glacy which will reflect our face infront of our eyes. You would never know how you look. And then all of a sudden one day you could see yourself in a mirror - How will you feel when you see your face for the first time? Will it be anything different than a stranger you see for the first time on the road? Some boring and weird questions right? Sorry…

What’s the Fastest?

I never met Albert Einstein and didn’t hear anything myself, but people say that this man said -” Imagination is more important than knowledge “. Whatever famous people say become famous quote (!!) - that’s what I also thought. When I was a child someone asked me a question -”What is the fastest thing you can ever imagine?”. I answered - “Rocket”, as at that time I didn’t have any idea of the speed of the light. The person who asked me the question replied that I was wrong. “Speed of light” also wasn’t the right answer. He/she replied that it is the Human Mind which is the fastest of all. It takes the sunlight 8 minutes to reach the earth. But our mind can go to the sun not even consuming a split of a second, which 1 is faster?

CMD.EXE or COMMAND.COM ???

19.02.2009 (3:49 pm) – Filed under: Did you know?, Tips & Tricks, Uncategorized ::

Recently I encountered a problem with cmd.exe . Yes, I am talking about the command prompt that we get by typing cmd.exe and pressing enter in the “Start”->>”Run”. The error was something like “Windows couldn’t find cmd.exe”. I was annoyed and remembered that the recent virus attack affected a lot of files and cmd.exe could be one of them.

But when i typed “tracert hasibul.info” in “Start”->>”Run” to traceroute my site, I found that the command prompt appeared and it was trace routing. Atfirst I thought that cmd.exe probably was there. But l found that some of the options are not working. For example copying text from command prompt by right clicking and selecting “Mark”, “Copy” or “Paste” etc. Later I found that it was not cmd.exe rather it was command.com .

CMD.EXE is the command prompt for windows XP whereas COMMAND.COM is the command prompt of the DOS which is still there in  Windows XP. Comman.com supports many commands of DOS which CMD.EXE doesn’t support. But still when CMD.EXE was absent in my PC i could do the needful with command.exe .

Reflections …

“A little boy and his father were walking on the mountains. Suddenly, his son falls, hurts himself and screams: “AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!”

To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating,
somewhere in the mountain: “AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!”

Curious, the little boy yells: “Who are you?”
He receives the answer: “Who are you?”

And then the boy screams to the mountain: “You’re Stupid”
The voice answers: “You’re Stupid”

Frustrated at the response, the boy screams: “I Hate You”
He receives the answer: “I Hate You”

He looks to his father and asks: “What’s going on?”
The father smiles and says: “My son, pay attention.”

The man screams: “You are a champion!”
The voice answers: “You are a champion!”

The boy is surprised, but does not understand. Then the father explains: “People call this ECHO, but
really this is LIFE. It gives you back everything you say or do. Our life is simply a reflection of our actions.

If you want more love in the world, create  more love in your heart. If you want people to respect you, respect them.
This relationship applies to everything, in all aspects of life. Life will give you back everything you have given to it.

Your Life is not a Coincidence.
It’s a Reflection of You! ….

Smile (Eastern Link BD) a renowned ISP has been shut off for illegal VOIP operations.

18.01.2009 (12:53 pm) – Filed under: Bangladesh, Daily Life, Technology, Uncategorized ::

Smile.com.bd a popular isp with thousands of clients were forced to shut their operation off  by BTRC as they were found to be engaged with illegal VOIP operation (call termination). I heard that BTRC in cooperation with RAB raided their office on last thursday and siezed VOIP devices.

Few months back another ISP named Maisha Technologies Bangladesh (mtlbd.net) were forced to shut off for same reason.

I usually use Xnet (xpressbd.net) at my home, but in my office smile’s corporate solution were used. 1 of my friend called me on last thursday and told me that he has been DC from internet & he was using smile. I found myself netless when I came to office on saturday. Rakesh, 1 of my friend who works for a renowned ISP informed me that smile was raided and all their operations were shut off completely. Later I found the manager of my office complaining that none of the many smile supports were available. However 1 of the top official of smile called him later and informed that they were doing alternate arrangements. Today, when i came to the office I found the Internet is back and heard that smile provided some new IPs (static fixed IPs for corporate connection).

When I checked it using traceroute I found that they were using a new ISP named ispros (ispros.com.bd). Smile is now using ISPROS’ bandwidth through their backbone or might have handed over the backbone to ISPROS.

I checked the bandwidth by downloading a big file using IDA and found that the speed now ranges between 25 to 30 Kilobytes per second which earlier was 50 to 60 kilobytes through smile. It is understandable that 25-30 KB is not bad enough in this scarcity, but the incident is an example of pure lack of professionalism in providing services since the VOIP devices were seized right from SMILE’s office. Moreover BTRC should not instantly shutoff an ISP like smile which has thousands of clients including many corporate clients. Many of the organizations that depend heavily on Internet for their operations were in complete outage.

On the other hand smile’s unprofessional attitude (Website down as it was hosted in local server using their own bandwidth and all the support being off as well) has proved that how volatile the Internet facility in Bangladesh is. BTRC should not only take these types of actions only but also monitor and ensure that Internet users are not disturbed by any action of BTRC and ISPs. BTRC should take an alternative arrangement and then go for actions.

I also heard from a reliable source that smile is transfering the ownership (and backbone as well) to another ISP (if not ISPROS).

DIGITAL BANGLADESH !!! (not sure what it means)… if we really dream anything like that, BTRC & and all the ISPs should show more proffesionalism in future and ensure flawless connectivity.

W32/Mysamurai worm, Scary background in the Windows folder

17.01.2009 (2:49 am) – Filed under: Uncategorized ::

I recently suffered by a worm named W32/Mysamurai. It changed the background of the C:\WINDOWS folder with a scary photo.

My pc was dead slow and I was looking for the solution. Atlast the Norton Security Scan in my PC could detect it. There was a file named windxp.ini in the C:\WINDOWS\System32 folder which was responsible for that. As soon as Norton Security scan detected it, I deleted it and I found my C:\WINDOWS folder back to how it should Look. Mcafee Security Center couldn’t detect it and neither could it remove it.

Information about the W32/Mysamurai Worm:

W32/Mysamurai is a worm. The worm will infect Windows systems and spreads through shared network drives.

Upon execution, the worm copies itself as:

(Temp name).tmp in the Windows Temp folder,
AdobeGama.pif in the Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder,
AdobeGama.pif in the %User Profile%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder,
htSystem.cfg in the C:\System Volume Information\_Resto~1 folder,
explore.exe in the Windows folder.

It also copies iteslf as the following files in the Windows System folder.

CommandPrompt.Sysm
NvMedia.sysm
Restoration.msd
Windows 3D.scr
odbcad32.dll
shareNet.msd
Ngsys.exe
runer.exe
rvshost.exe
system31.exe
userint.exe
windxp.exe
winzipt.exe

It also creates WindXP.ini file in the Windows System folder.

The worm modifies the Desktop.ini configuration information file present in the Windows and Windows System folder.

It modifies the registry at the following location to ensure its automatic execution at every Windows startup:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.Msd
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.Msd\DefaultIcon
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.Msd\Shell\Open\Command
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.sysm
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.sysm\DefaultIcon
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.sysm\Shell\Open\Command

It also modifies the registry to ensure that the screensaver is active and will run. The threat will run when the computer is restarted in Safe Mode, and that file extensions are not shown.

The worm then spreads by copying itself to shared drives.

This worm first appeared on September 02, 2007.

Blueball Other names of W32/Mysamurai Worm:

This Worm is also known as W32.Mysamurai.
